Area rug cleaning in Cleveland

Synthetic rugs we can clean right on your floor. Wool, silk and handmade rugs we usually take with us, because they need to be washed on both sides and dried flat.

Figure out what you've got

Flip a corner over. If the back looks like the front, with the pattern woven all the way through, it's probably handmade and probably wool. If there's a mesh or rubbery backing, it's machine-made. Most rugs from the big stores are polypropylene and handle hot water fine. Wool can shrink and some dyes bleed, so wool gets a cooler, gentler wash.

Shag looks great and holds onto everything. Rugs like this get a slow clean and plenty of grooming afterward.

On your floor, or with us

Cleaning in your house is cheaper and you get the rug back the same day. It works for most synthetic rugs.

Taking it with us means we can dust it out properly first (a rug that's been down a few years can hold pounds of grit), wash both sides, and dry it flat. That matters for wool, for older rugs, and for pet urine that went all the way through. Plan on about a week to get it back. There are plenty of beautiful old wool rugs in Shaker and the Heights, and they deserve the slower way.

What it costs

In-home cleaning runs $1.50 to $3 a square foot, so an 8x10 synthetic rug runs about $120 to $240. Off-site cleaning for wool and handmade rugs is about $3 to $6 a square foot.

Common questions

Can you get pet urine out of a rug?

Often, yes, especially off-site where we can soak it. Urine can also make the dyes in some wool rugs run, so we test first and tell you what to expect.

What about the floor under it?

If something soaked through onto hardwood, tell us. We'll look at the floor while the rug is out.

Carpet looking tired?

Call, or text us a photo of the worst spot. Most of the time we can tell you what it'll take and what it'll cost before we ever come out.
